The Marist water polo team enjoyed another four-win weekend a few days ago. The women defeated Iona and Wagner on Saturday, then topped Siena and Villanova on Sunday. The Red Foxes are now a perfect 6-0 in conference play and lead the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings.

Saturday's game versus Wagner stole the show. The game was played in the McCann Natatorium and freshman Kristen Barnett said the crowd showed up to root them on against their toughest challengers.

"We got really pumped before we played Wagner, because they were our biggest rivals," she said. "We had a lot of fan support too, which definitely helps motivate us even more."

Marist toppled Iona 11-2 with seven different goal scorers on the day, including a three-goal performance from sophomore Katelin McCahill. Wagner was a different story. The Foxes had to come back from a 5-2 halftime deficit behind a three-goal effort from sophomore Julie Wade. Marist also presented its balanced scoring attack in this contest with five different goal-scorers pitching in for the 8-7 win, with freshman Angie Rampton netting the game-winner.

Sunday's action versus Villanova was a key point in the conference season. Barnett explained that the team was only a loss and an Iona win away from sitting in a first-place tie. Iona had beaten Wagner earlier that day.

"Right before the Villanova game, we were told that if Iona won their last game and we lost [the Villanova game] that we would be tied in wins and losses with them," she said. "So Villanova was a critical win for us."

Marist continued the onslaught Sunday by beating Siena 13-8 and Villanova 8-6. Rampton impressed again with four more goals versus Siena. Not to be outdone, her classmate, Hilary Schroeder, piled in three goals of her own versus Villanova.

This youthful team seems to be coming together more and more every weekend. This weekend is the last weekend of tournament play before the MAAC Tournament on April 28 and 29.
